Here are the answers to some “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQs) about worldschooling, our services, policies and safety issues. If you have any additional concerns, please contact us.
What is Worldschooling?
Simply put, worldschooling is the educational approach in which participants experience the world as their classroom. Parents who choose this lifestyle, enjoy traveling and bonding with their school-aged kids, while enhancing their education by giving them opportunities to explore, appreciate and respect the major cultures of the world, their languages, and points of view.
In most cases, worldschooling families are digital nomads who become year-round slow travelers. This means, they stay in each destination for extended periods, to immerse themselves by living like locals. In some other cases, families homeschool in a set location but take on part-time worldschooling as a key component of their children’s education. They usually travel off-season and aim at building meaningful connections with the local area and culture.
Also, some worldschooling families prefer to travel alone to be able to spend time exploring and learning as a family with complete freedom and control of the details of their experience. Meanwhile, some others travel as a community or village, as they recognize the importance of spending time with several like-minded families who have kids around the same age.
Who does Worldschool Peru serve?
We can serve anyone who is planning a worldschooling experience in the Sacred Valley of Cusco – Peru and currently looking for an exclusive and personalized service. That would include:
* Full-time or part-time worldschoolers.
* Families (of 5 or more) who travel alone or groups of families who travel as a co-worldschooling community or village.
* Experienced worldschoolers who have already traveled to many destinations or families who are just testing the waters of what worldschooling is about.
In any case, ideally it is a group of people who share our same values.
What makes Worldschool Peru different from most worldschooling hubs?
Unlike most worldschooling hubs, which offer pre-determined activities during a particular time, we prioritize flexibility and personalization, by working with each family or group in tailoring a perfect experience.
This means that each group decides on the dates and chooses which of our themed experiential learning programs they are interested in. They may choose only one or multiple programs. And they may add as many additional services as they need. Read more about our programs and additional services.
Does Worldschool Peru offer drop off programs?
No. Our programs have been designed for families to enjoy and explore together. Therefore, parents must be present for all workshops and excursions included in our programs. For safety reasons, we expect at least one parent or responsible adult per each 4 participant kids (4 years or older).
Does Worldschool Peru welcome kids under 4?
Younger siblings are welcome! They may participate for free in the workshop activities by helping their older siblings. However, since activities are geared toward school-aged kids, we do not offer additional supplies for younger siblings.
Are activities different for younger and older children?
Participant children must be 4 through 18 years old. The entire group remains together during our excursions. However, for our workshops we divide the group in two or three sub groups depending on the level of difficulty of each activity.
Where do the workshops take place?
Our programs have been designed considering the town of Urubamba as the departure and arrival
point, as well as the place where the workshops will be held. If you are staying in a different location
(such as Cusco city, Pisac, Maras, Ollantaytambo, etc) we could try to adjust the itinerary but prices
may also be adjusted.
What language is used during Worldschool Peru’s programs?
All our programs have been designed to take place in English. However, programs could take place in Spanish if the group requests it.
Quechua words or phrases may be used by instructors and staff members occasionally.
What happens if the group is made up of less than 5 people?
If your group is made up of less than 5 people, we recommend that you look for other families who are planning to visit the Sacred Valley on the same dates.
If your dates coincide with those of a group, with similar interests, that has previously confirmed their trip with us, we can consult about the possibility of integrating both groups.
Does Worldschool Peru offer any discounts?
We aim to keep prices affordable for all interested families.
We are currently offering a special 25% discount on all of our themed experiential learning programs in the Sacred Valley for groups that confirm their reservation before March 2025!
After that, we will offer a 10% discount for each participant joining more than one program.
When is the payment due?
If you confirm your reservation over 3 months (90 days) in advanced, you can either pay in full upon confirmation, or you can pay 50% upon confirmation and the remaining 50% 3 months prior to the first day of the program.
If you confirm your trip less than 3 months in advanced, you must pay in full upon confirmation.
How far in advanced should a reservation be confirmed?
It is recommended to confirm a reservation at least 3 months (90 days) in advance to ensure all the arrangements and the availability of staff members. Depending on the season and the interest in adding tours and excursions, specific accommodations and others, the recommendation would be at least 6 months (180 days) in advance.
If a family/group is already in Cusco and wants to confirm a reservation, we would recommend to contact us as soon as possible to check for availability.
What is Worldschool Peru’s cancellation policy?
Refunds may apply in the following cases:
– Full refund if the cancellation takes place within 48 hours of the confirmation, as this is the time given for reading our Terms & Conditions and other policies.
– Full or partial refund (to be determined in each case) for any reason from 48 hours since the confirmation to 3 months (90 days) from the first day of the program.
– Full or partial refund (to be determined in each case) in the event of a political, environmental, health or any other type of crisis affecting Cusco and the Sacred Valley that results in Worldschool Peru determining it is not possible or safe for the program to take place.
– Full refund if Worldschool Peru cancels the program for any reason at any time.
Refunds do not apply for any reason after the program begins.
When does Worldschool Peru send a final detailed schedule?
Final details depend on what each group decides to include in their program, as well as on the group ages, etc. After gathering all the important information from each group that allows us to fully understand their expectations and particularities, we will start crafting a detailed schedule. A final version of it, including the times for each of the activities will be sent to the group 4 weeks prior to the first day of the program.
Can families with disabilities join Worldschool Peru’s programs?
Yes! We welcome kids and adults with disabilities in our programs. But please keep in mind that hiking is often a part of our excursions and not all trails are handicap accessible.
All cases of participants with a specific disability must be notified and discussed from the beginning, to ensure we provide additional help or support as needed.
Can Worldschool Peru accommodate dietary restrictions?
We will do our best to accommodate some dietary restrictions. To do so, families with children with allergies or food related issues must notify and discuss these cases from the beginning.
We use mostly local products for the snacks and meals we provide. Families with multiple or serious allergies, may choose to bring their own food, after discussing it with the staff.
Does Worldschool Peru require any vaccination?
No specific vaccines are required to participate in our programs. However, if the group decides to include tours around other regions of Peru, it is worth noticing that the yellow fever vaccine is recommended for visiting the Peruvian Amazon.
Participants should not attend the program if they are sick (e.g., they have a fever, vomits or anything else that could be a symptom of a contagious illness).
Does Worldschool Peru require medical insurance?
No. Each family/group may decide whether or not to purchase medical insurance based on their own research. However, please keep in mind that Worldschool Peru will not be responsible for paying for any medical treatment received due to illness or injury during our programs.
